Tips and Suggestions with Resale Websites

Although I have discussed the multitude of steals that have found on multiple buying and selling apps, I feel that is important to discuss some of the risks that comes with using these sites.  This post comes after my second item claims report issue with Grailed that prompted me to advise on the perils that come with buying and selling websites. With this here are a few tips for those trying to do business off a resell app:

1.    Do a little research on your buyer or seller

This might sound a little odd, but checking to see that they have good reviews and have a page that seems as if they use it regularly is a good indication of reliability. If there has been lack of activity for several months or a year, this person’s item might not be one you should pursue.

2. Always have a conversation before you buy or sell something

This will ensure that the buyer or seller you are doing business with will regularly respond about any potential issues with regards to the item or money aspect. Having a conversation also allows you to ask the few extra questions you might not be sure of before buying an item. Make sure that you are getting exactly what you want. It is never pushy to want to know more about what you are about to buy.

          3. As much as you can, try not to wear the items that you have listed

I will admit that I am guilty of this. Wearing an item that you have posted runs the risk of potentially damaging it to the point of not being able to sell. This is something that is especially important to do with sneakers. However, the only way that you can get away with it is if you update the condition on the item’s listing overtime. There is nothing worse than receiving some sneakers that are more creased than what the photos portrayed, or that fresh tee you’ve been looking forward to sporting a stain. DON’T BE THAT GUY.

          4. Explore as many buying and selling sites as you can to locate an item you really want

Often times I find myself jumping at the first good listing I see without consulting other websites. I would suggest trying to look at three sites in search for an item to see what the absolute best deal you can get is. The easiest three to look on would probably be Grailed, Poshmark, and Depop. Why settle for that shirt with the little hole, when you can get it without the hole somewhere else for $5 more? Never settle.

          5. Last but not least, always, send and request tracking information

Doing this will show that you are trustworthy and make sure that items get to people in a timely fashion. This also creates a precedent for the buyer and seller community. Uploading tracking information influences others to do so. In this day and age of scamming it has become risky to shop on resale websites. Because of this, the relief that comes with receiving a tracking number for an item of yours, makes it worthwhile to reciprocate the same energy.
